PROJECT OVERVIEW
A simple search for the word flood, flooding, flood disaster, and other related terms on search engines returns millions of results.
Many of us have been told or read stories of flood disasters mostly from childhood. These flood stories also seem to have significant roots in science.
Geomythology is the study of how these stories and geology could intersect. Flood stories may be used to explain geological phenomena such as volcanoes, earthquakes, floods, fossils, and other natural features of the landscape. Though not all flood stories are the same, you will or would have found that the description of the destruction of the world by water is a common theme. Most flood stories include an angry God or deity and a catastrophic water event that destroys the world but is only survived by a chosen few. You're that chosen few.
The 30_for_30 webinar series was contrived to create awareness about the challenges posed by floods and equip communities with the knowledge to develop smart solutions for flood prevention and water management. On this journey with us, we have experienced and trained experts in their various fields who have demystify the nature of flood and boost our arsenal of resilience. Stay tuned, listen to all discussions, and be prepared to learn, and unlearn.

OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Keynote from the series
From the speakers, facilitator, and moderator to the topics, the 30_for_30 series was a selection of phenomenal and accomplished speakers who, with passion, took the audience from a place of no knowledge to brimming insights. For the purpose of a recap, below are a few insights and memorable moments.
1️⃣ The intersection of technology, arts, and environmental engineering in mitigating flood impacts by Oluchi Nwaokorie exposed me to the different ways arts can be utilised mostly as a tool for communication in flood awareness and impact. Successful engineering technologies used to manage flood prone landscapes, including the economics that informed the choice. The speaker also shared her green project (tree planting), which had a credible impact on environmental sustainability and reduction of carbon emissions. She has since been awarded for the project.
2️⃣ In another session, I moved from knowing trauma and PTSD as words used by psychologists and medical professionals to understanding the underlying causes and how to manage it. This session was anchored by Edward Ozokede
3️⃣ I was also exposed to the channel of communication in information dissemination, the range of methods employed in IT, and why it is necessary to involve both genders for effective communication. In her words, "in some society, there are places men can not enter. If we do not empower women, we can not get access to such places, and they will not benefit from the service we provide. Ecoweal 30for30 Webinar Series aimed to contribute to the understanding of the unique challenges that arise in the aftermath of floods concerning gender-based violence. By identifying vulnerabilities and proposing informed solutions, it aspires to facilitate more effective and inclusive disaster response strategies. This work underscores the urgency of incorporating a gender-sensitive lens in policies and interventions to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals affected by natural disasters.

The 30_for_30 awareness series project serves as a pivotal tool, shedding light on the challenges encountered by gender, especially within the realm of floods and their enduring repercussions. By addressing the intersection of gender dynamics and flood-related issues, this initiative aims to foster inclusivity, empowerment, and resilience within affected communities.
Addressing Nigeria’s perennial flooding is important for the country to make progress. The human-induced causes of flooding should be addressed urgently. Not doing this will delay its journey to sustainable development.

Quotes
We have chosen a generation of fossil fuel producers to encourage the world of rising seas and warming temperatures, droughts and floods, heat waves and wildfires, a world in which one in four mammals and one in eight birds are at risk of extinction.
